11 A Promise Keeper

    A Keeper of Promises
#11 in the Series:  My Daddy Is…

    Do you make promises?

    Do you keep your promises?

Some people will not even make a promise because they don't know what could happen to prevent them from keeping it, thus, they think it better not to make one in the first place.

This is one of the most amazing things
about God.  He makes promises.  Not only does he make promises and keep promises but he also extends the benefit of those promises to all who will believe in and accept Jesus.

There are a multitude of promises in the Old Testament that we, as believers in Christ get to appropriate.  I am not going to list any of those here because they are a subject of another series; but, so you know we are being biblical in our appropriation of those promises, check out these verses:

“This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.”
    ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭3:6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
    ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:29‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Now that you know the promises made to the nation of Israel are yours to claim, know also that your Heavenly Father is a promise keeper.  Though our parents, spouses, siblings, friends, bosses, and governments may not keep their promises…God always does!

“Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭145:13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he made, for a thousand generations,”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭105:8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭23:19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Then the nations that are left all around you shall know that I am the Lord; I have rebuilt the ruined places and replanted that which was desolate. I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it.”
    ‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭36:36‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭111:5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.”
    ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭1:20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

    1. Now…pray and ask Holy Spirit to highlight something from this post and to teach you. (Perhaps he already highlighted something as you were reading!). Close your eyes and be silent before him for a minute or two...or more.  Breathe in Holy Spirit.  (Yes, actually inhale.)  Listen.  Open your eyes and peruse the post.  What does your eye see or your ear hear?  Write it in your journal.

    1. Why does it seem important?  You could even ask:  Father/Jesus/Holy Spirit, why have you brought this to my attention?  Write the answer in your journal.  (The answer may be a question…an I wonder.  Allow Holy Spirit to direct your thoughts.)

    1. Make it a prayer.  Pray the scripture (and it’s insights, questions, or comments) back to the Father.  Write this in your journal.

    1. How are you going to be different after this experience with God?  What does he want you to be or do as a result?  If you are not sure, ask him.  Write this in your journal.

I look forward to this journey with you!  Onward to freedom for your mustang heart!

P.S. I will be sharing some of my insights and experiences in the comments as examples for you.   I cherish your comments below and emails at:  joyfullcoyote@gmail.com.  Share on social media.  (If you receive this in your email, you may need to visit the web page (link is in the footer) to find the share buttons.)  If you don’t receive it in your email, sign up for auto delivery at the top of the right hand column on the web page.  Be blessed today!
