Treasure Hunts: Wonders
#26 in the Series: Daddy, It's Me--Conversations of an Ordinary Person with an Extraordinary Heavenly Father
Another type of treasure hunt that has yielded many gems has occurred when I have had questions about a given topic. Perhaps I am reading a devotional or praying or meditating and I have an “I wonder?”
- I wonder what the Bible says about prayer?
- I wonder what God’s Word says about freedom?
- I wonder what God has to say about suffering?
- What does the Bible really say about love and loving our brothers, loving our neighbors and loving our enemies?
At the end of December for the last five years, I have asked the Lord for a word focus for the following year. For 2019, I felt like the word was “ignite.” The verse that came to me was:
“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.”
2 Timothy 1:6 NIV
But I felt like the concept that I was feeling was bigger and broader and had to do with praise and rejoicing and somehow sharing. So I went looking for other verses that might catch the essence of what I felt the Lord was speaking to me. The treasure hunt was on!
Using the search bar in YouVersion, I looked up many words related to ignite: flame, fire, spark, kindle, light, start a fire, light a fire. I didn’t find anything that seemed right. Then I started looking into other versions because “ignite” was not even found in the King James Version, the New International Version, or the English Standard Version, which are my usual go-to versions. I started looking in more modern language versions like The Message, The Good News Bible, and The Passion Translation. I looked up “ignite” in the dictionary and started looking for even more figurative synonyms. I hunted for spark, explode, and erupt. That is when I found the verse that perfectly fit the concept.
“Lord, I will worship you with extended hands as my whole heart explodes with praise! I will tell everyone everywhere about your wonderful works and how your marvelous miracles exceed expectations!”
Psalms 9:1 TPT
And these two added more power and depth:
“My heart and soul explode with joy—full of glory! Even my body will rest confident and secure.”
Psalms 16:9 TPT
“My heart explodes with praise to you! Now and forever my heart bows in worship to you, my King and my God!”
Psalms 145:1 TPT
What is a topic or word that you have wonders about? Go digging for the gems hidden in the treasure chest of the Bible. You might be surprised at what you find that will speak to you and bring freedom to your Mustang heart!
