2 Dreams and Visons:
Dark Haired Angel plus…
#23 in the Series: Daddy, It's
Me--Conversations of an Ordinary Person with an Extraordinary Heavenly Father
One of the most
incredible stories of God speaking through dreams has to do with my mom and
dad. Not many people are aware that my
family consists of 3 biological siblings and 7 adopted brothers and sisters. The last five came into the family as a
result of dreams that my mom and dad had.
In mom’s dream she was told she would find a little dark haired angel. In Dad’s dream he was told that when the
opportunity came to adopt five or six kids, to not be afraid to take them. If I remember the story correctly, neither
told the other their dream at the time they had them.
While I was growing
up, Mom and Dad did a lot of foster parenting.
By this time my older brother was married. I was away at college. My younger sister was married. My adopted brother and sister who are twins
were still living at home.
Not long after her
dream, mom was out making a delivery for
the stone business. At the delivery
location the men were having lunch and one of the men "happened" to
mention that his girlfriend was no longer going to be able to foster this cute
little girl...She was just an angel. Mom’s ears perked up? She asked some questions and it appeared that
the issue was that the county wanted to place the little girl in a home with
her two other siblings.
Mom checked with the
county and found out that there were not only 3 children, but a total of 6
ranging from age 1 (the angel) to 15, but they were spread across 2 counties
and neither of those counties were the one where mom and dad were residents. The case workers said it was highly unlikely
that their respective counties would transfer the children to mom’s county and
it would takes months or years to accomplish.
God, however, had other plans as announced in the dreams. Less than three months later all the children
were living with mom and dad.
After a period of
time, mom and dad were told that the mother had decided to relinquish custody
and release the children for adoption. Since they were are living in the same home, the county approach my parents about adopting the whole family first (it was unlikely that the children would stay together otherwise.) I
suspect it was at this time that dad finally shared his dream. The eldest girl decided she did not want to
be adopted. She was 16 by this time and
would soon be out on her own. The other
five were adopted and became half of the Sprague family and legacy. The eldest
daughter still has ties as well.
I always thought it
fascinating how God arranged it so all six were invited but it was ok when only
5 made the choice to be adopted.
I also think it is
rather cool to think of being adopted into a family rather than born. When you are born into a family, no one
really has a choice or say in the matter, but when you are adopted you are
chosen!
Just like we are
adopted into God’s family.
“But when the set time had fully
come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those
under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his
sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out,
“ Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you
are his child, God has made you also an heir.”
Galatians 4:4-7 NIV
“But you are God’s chosen
treasure—priests who are kings, a spiritual “nation” set apart as God’s devoted
ones. He called you out of darkness to experience his marvelous light, and now
he claims you as his very own. He did this so that you would broadcast his
glorious wonders throughout the world.”
1 Peter 2:9 TPT
“If some of the branches have
been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among
the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root,”
Romans 11:17 NIV
So now,
if you have accepted God’s free gift of salvation you have been chosen! You have been adopted into God’s glorious
family and he is pouring out his spirit and wanting to speak to you in dreams.
“"'And in the last days it
shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your
sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams;”
Acts 2:17 ESV
Your
freedom has been purchased for you! Will
you accept that freedom for your mustang heart?
