- Now…pray and ask Holy Spirit to highlight something from this post and to teach you. (Perhaps he already highlighted something as you were reading!). Close your eyes and be silent before him for a minute or two...or more. Breathe in Holy Spirit. (Yes, actually inhale.) Listen. Open your eyes and peruse the post. What does your eye see or your ear hear? Write it in your journal.
- Why does it seem important? You could even ask: Father/Jesus/Holy Spirit, why have you brought this to my attention? Write the answer in your journal. (The answer may be a question…an I wonder. Allow Holy Spirit to direct your thoughts.)
- Make it a prayer. Pray the scripture (and it’s insights, questions, or comments) back to the Father. Write this in your journal.
- How are you going to be different after this experience with God? What does he want you to be or do as a result? If you are not sure, ask him. Write this in your journal.
My Mediator
#25 in the Series: My Daddy Is…
Have
you ever had a situation in which both sides were unwilling or unable to come to an agreement...A virtual
irresistible force meeting an immovable object? Often what is need in that situation is, not
so much an advocate, but someone who goes beyond
just support to a point of
actually negotiating on your behalf.
Often the mediator will not actually be an advocate for either side but
will impartially negotiate to find a settlement.
Thanks
be to God that Jesus is both our advocate and our mediator and the Holy Spirit
is our advocate (and by the way, Father is the judge). We win and are acquitted because Jesus shows
the Father his nail scarred hands. He
announces, “The penalty has been paid!”
And Father declares our verdict, “Not guilty!”
Where
else can you get that kind of mercy!
Then, the most amazing part happens!
Not only are we not punished, but we receive life…full, real life as we
accept what Jesus did on our behalf.
Can you
imagine a scenario where a criminal, bound for the death chamber, refuses the
pardon of the governor?? Don’t refuse
his pardon and opportunity for a new life.
Pray that the eyes of your imagination would be illuminated with the
truth in God’s Word!
“For there is one God and one
mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a
ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.”
1 Timothy 2:5-6 NIV
“But in fact the ministry Jesus
has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator
is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better
promises.”
Hebrews 8:6 NIV
“For this reason Christ is the
mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised
eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the
sins committed under the first covenant.”
Hebrews 9:15 NIV
“But you have come to Mount
Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to
thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the
firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge
of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of
a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the
blood of Abel.”
Hebrews 12:22-24 NIV
I look forward to
