Communication Key: Lord of
All? Lord At All?
#45 in the Series: Daddy, It's Me--Conversations of an Ordinary Person
with an Extraordinary Heavenly Father
In the last blog, I
talked about the importance of praying the will of God if you want
answers. Some of us really do want to DO
the will of the Father…until
we find out what it is going to cost us!
We say to Him, “I
will do anything you say Lord, but don’t ask me to ______.” (Maybe it's to
forgive that person, or humble myself to do a task, or go someplace that
makes me uncomfortable or share Christ with an acquaintance, friend, co-worker
or--God forbid!--a family member) Or we say, “Lord I didn’t think you would ask
me to ______! I can’t do that!”
How can we call Him
“Lord,” “Master,” “King of kings,” or “Savior” and still withhold a portion of
our life? A lord is lord over all his
kingdom or he is not lord of any of it.
Either God is Lord of all of your life or He is not Lord of any of your
life.
““Not everyone who says to me,
‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the
will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord,
Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in
your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew
you. Away from me, you evildoers!’”
Matthew 7:21-23 NIV
From the very
beginning of human kind this was the problem.
Adam and Eve believed the lie that God was withholding something good
from them and decided to take control of their own lives. (Read Genesis 2:15-3:24). This human tendency to want to have control
over our lives instead of doing God’s will permeates every person. God ways are different. They go against every human logic:
- If you want to save your life, you must lose it.
“For whoever wants to save their
life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.”
Matthew 16:25 NIV
- If you want to truly live, you must die to your own selfish desires.
“for if you are living according
to the [impulses of the] flesh, you are going to die. But if [you are living]
by the [power of the Holy] Spirit you are habitually putting to death the
sinful deeds of the body, you will [really] live forever.”
ROMANS 8:13 AMP
- Forgiving is essential.
“For if you forgive other people
when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if
you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
Matthew 6:14-15 NIV
- Love your neighbor as yourself…and oh, by the way, love your enemy too.
““You have heard that it was
said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your
enemies and pray for those who persecute you,”
Matthew 5:43-44 NIV
Even Jesus, God’s
own Son, had to submit to the Father’s will in order to accomplish His purpose
on earth and to have His prayers be effective.
“For I have come down from
heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.”
John 6:38 NIV
“Going a little farther, he fell
to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. “Abba,
Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet
not what I will, but what you will.””
Mark 14:35-36 NIV
It was not the
Father’s will for the cup to be removed.
It cost Jesus everything…his very life.
Why did He allow it to happen? He
said Himself that He could have called down legions of angels to help Him.
“Do you think I cannot call on
my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of
angels? But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen
in this way?””
Matthew 26:53-54 NIV
It was the Father’s
plan—from before the creation of the world—that Jesus would die to redeem
mankind...that anyone who would believe
in Him and accept His sacrifice for them and obey His commands would become
children of God and be restored to full relationship with the Father.
“This was part of God’s plan,
for he was chosen and destined for this before the foundation of the earth was
laid, but he has been made manifest in these last days for you.”
1 Peter 1:20 TPT
It was
because Jesus saw the ultimate plan of God that he was able to endure the agony
of the crucifixion.
“We look away from the natural
realm and we fasten our gaze onto Jesus who birthed faith within us and who
leads us forward into faith’s perfection. His example is this: Because his
heart was focused on the joy of knowing that you would be his, he endured the
agony of the cross and conquered its humiliation, and now sits exalted at the
right hand of the throne of God!”
Hebrews 12:2 TPT
Often when we look
at life from our human perspective, what God asks of us seems unreasonable,
silly, or foolish.
“For the foolishness of God is
wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human
strength.”
1 Corinthians 1:25 NIV
“but we preach Christ crucified:
a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,”
1 Corinthians 1:23 NIV
When see start to
see life from His perspective and realize He has
given us everything we need to live that life, THEN we begin to truly live!
“His divine power has given us
everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us
by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and
precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine
nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”
2 Peter 1:3-4 NIV
Then we get to taste heaven on earth!
“your kingdom come, your will be
done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
Matthew 6:10 NIV
If He is not Lord of
all, He is not Lord at all! Make Him
Lord of all of your life! Take another
step toward freeing your mustang heart!
