God Winks
#16 in the Series: Daddy, It's Me--Conversations of an Ordinary Person with an Extraordinary Heavenly Father
Have you ever had a
situation where things were just too coincidental! Something happened or you unexpectedly met a
person that changed the whole trajectory of your day (or your life!). Maybe it
was something that someone else might not even have noticed but it touch you
deeply, where you needed to be touched in that moment: a text from a friend, a quote from someone famous or not so famous, picture, an object that reminded you of God’s presence or situation that was
just too good to be true.
I used to call
these, “God things” but a friends of mine gave them a better name: God winks.
And when they are bigger, how about, “God smiles?”
Here is an example:
After I left all my
stuff behind (referenced in “Love Letters: Read It Again And Again And…) I had a large unexpected bill I had to pay to
get out from under an obligation that should not have been mine. I was on the verge of taking out a credit
card loan to do it. I still had good
credit but no steady income, so even though I could have paid off the debt, I
didn’t know how I was going to pay off the card. I was in a great deal of turmoil as I walked
the half mile to the mailbox trying to clear my mind and make a decision.
Then God winked and
smiled! I opened the mailbox to discover
an envelope from the IRS. In it was my
tax refund. But…it was not the amount I
had expected. They said I had made an
error on my return…
I don’t think that
is even possible when using TurboTax!
There was an extra
$1000 making the total within ten cents of what I needed to pay the bill!
I cried…but I could seeing God grinning!
I cried…but I could seeing God grinning!
“He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.”
Psalm 37:6 NIV

“So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Matthew 6:31, 33-34 NIV

It is a constant
effort to trust God in many areas of life.
When he sends you a wink or a smile, it gives strength to carry on. Do you recognize them when he sends them? Look for them and don’t forget to say,
“Thanks!”
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
