God Winks:
Present of Presence
#17 in the Series: Daddy, It's Me--Conversations of an Ordinary Person with an Extraordinary Heavenly Father
I woke this morning
with these words in my mind:
I just want to bask in your presence.
I want to wrap in your love
I want to breathe in your essence
Holy Spirit from above
The presence of God
is such an extraordinary gift. When I
think or say the word I think of both spellings at the same time: presence and
presents.
Similarly “present”
means here and now or a gift.
Here is a little something I wrote a few years ago after a walk
and meditating on this concept:
Present, Presence and Presents
Teach me to live in the present
To let go of the plans for the future
And release the pain of the past
Show me how to live in your promises
And accept your unconditional love
It is the one thing that lasts
Teach me to live in the moment
To bask in the joy of your presence
To take in the awesomeness of your creation
And be shadowed in the power of your love
Teach me to live in your presents
To walk in the strength of your spirit
To let your love live through me
And hand each one I meet
The thing that they need
For their healing.
A sense of God’s
presence often comes when he gives a special present. It is another way he communicate with us.
A few years ago
(after I had to let go of my stuff of the ten years before and had been rescued
out of a wrong relationship) I was lying in bed—awake—but I had not yet opened
my eyes. I didn’t want to get up. I didn’t want to face another day. I was praying: God do you even care? I felt very alone. I didn’t have money to pay bills. I was running out of groceries and had no
money to buy more.
Suddenly I had the
urge to open my eyes!
When I did…there it
was. The most beautiful sunrise I
believe God ever created! It spread
across the top of the ridge like frosting on a huge cake. It was mostly crimson, but it was also
indigo, gold, orange, and turquoise!
Turquoise! Seems like an odd
color to include in a sunrise. This
sunrise was especially unusual because, being in a valley, the clouds are
rarely in the right place to form a colorful sunrise. And it was unusual that I
even saw it because I am not an early riser.
It was so stunning that I immediately got up and went outside to take a
picture. As I did I could sense the presence of Father and his voice saying “I
know where you are! I love you! I will
take care of you! Trust me! Here is a gift. A sign of my love.”
You know, that
gorgeous sunrise seemed like it lasted forever.
Usually sunrises and sunsets fade rather quickly, but that one went on
and on. It still brings tears to my eyes
when I remember his tender words and the special present he gave me that dawn,
but especially the gift of his presence that was so strong that I have never
doubted it since. If the evil one tries
to implant that lie I remind him and myself of God’s wonderful promise. His presents/presence is enough!
“Don’t be obsessed with money but live content with what you have, for you always have God’s presence. For hasn’t he promised you, “I will never leave you alone, never! And I will not loosen my grip on your life!””
Hebrews 13:5 TPT
“And teach them to faithfully follow all that I have commanded you. And never forget that I am with you every day, even to the completion of this age.””
Matthew 28:20 TPT
“teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always [remaining with you perpetually--regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion], even to the end of the age.””
MATTHEW 28:20 AMP
I know what it is
like to feel alone, forgotten, misused, and hopeless. Maybe you are there
today. I encourage you to pour your
feelings out to God. He can handle your
emotions…even your anger. He knows it’s
there so it’s not a surprise or an offense to him.
Close you eyes and
say: Father, I feel so ———. What do you say?
Then be quiet…
listen…with your eyes closed…for a minute.
What do you
see? What do you hear?
If is sounds like
Jesus, believe it. (His sheep hear his
voice.)
And be on the look
out for the present as you sense his presence.
Tell me about it in
