31 Can You Hear Me Now?: Unbelief

Can You Hear Me Now?:   Unbelief

#31 in the Series:  Daddy, It's Me--Conversations of an Ordinary Person with an Extraordinary Heavenly Father
Now that you have the foundation of your relationship with God confirmed, there are still a number of things that can make it difficult or impossible to hear from him.  One of these is the common misconception that God does not speak to people today.  This is totally not biblical.   A pastor friend of mine would call it "a lie from the pit of hell!"

“In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭1:1-2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

So another reason that people “do not hear” from God is not that God is not speaking, but rather because they do not believe he speaks or tries to communicate with people today.   Because they do not believe he speaks, they do not recognize his voice or interjection or interventions in their lives.  They do not recognize or acknowledge that he has much more to offer in the relationship.
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭1:3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

When we are believers and followers of Christ, we have the Holy Spirit living in us, therefore he can speak to us at any time.  Every believer has this access to God.  Yes, even ordinary people like you and me!  It is a process of learning to recognize his voice and see his interactions in our lives.  It’s simple, but it is not easy.
“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

““If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.””
‭‭John‬ ‭14:15-17, 19-21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Rest assured God does speak today.  And he wants to speak to you!  Personally…intimately…practically by his Holy Spirit.

““All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
‭‭John‬ ‭14:25-26‬ ‭NIV‬‬

““When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.
‭‭John‬ ‭15:26‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.””
‭‭John‬ ‭16:13-15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Most of the posts in this blog so far have been examples of the Holy Spirit sharing his truth with you through me.  He can and will share with you also, if you believe and seek the kingdom of God first in your life.  At first the things shared may seem small, almost insignificant…but if your take those small things and adjust your life to line up with what he shows you, he will show you more and deeper things.  (See the Parable of the Talents:  Matthew 25:14-30). Be pleased and grateful for what you are learning, but never proud or satisfied.  As you taste and see the goodness of God, your craving for him will increase, his revelation of himself, his purposes, and his ways will increase, which will cause you to love him more, which will increase your faith to join him in his work.  But first:  the ever deepening of your love and desire for him!

May your roots grow deep and strong and wide in him so that new freedom will come to your mustang heart!
