Love Letters:
Questions of the Heart

Sometimes,
especially when I’m weary of life, my husband will say something about how
lucky he is to have me in his life or to have my love. And I will reply, “Really?” It is not so much that I doubt him as that I
just need to hear it again.
Our Heavenly Father,
Jesus, and Holy Spirit often will confirm the words of scripture in amazing and personal ways, if we will ask.
It seems that these
types of questions are best asked out loud, with eyes closed and then be quiet
and “hear” or “see” what he says in your thoughts or mind’s eye…write it down.
This the beginning of your dialog with him!
For example, here is
another way to pray back the scripture from last time:
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing
in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy
and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship
through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—” Ephesians
1:3-5 NIV
Ask: Father,
you say here that I am blessed with every spiritual blessing. Please tell me more about that.
Or ask Jesus:
Jesus, it says I was chosen in you before the creation of the
world. Sometimes I feel so alone and left
out. What do you say about that?
What about the echo
prayer you said/wrote last time. Is
there a question you want to ask Father or Jesus or Holy Spirit…You might be
surprised at the answer.
A couple of
guidelines:
- It is better if it is an opened ended question...not just a yes or no
- It is better to ask questions about your desires. Desires are usually based around needs for connection (worth, joy, love, acknowledgment); stability (belonging, comfort, security, peace); competence (finishing, goodness, recognition, approval); or achievement (justice, challenge, significance, freedom).*
- Because you are God's child, the sheep of his pasture, he says you hear is voice. (John 10:27) If it sounds like Jesus, believe it is Jesus.
Give it a try. It gets easier with practice and the
conversations are personal and intimate.
Much more on this later...and watch freedom come to your mustang heart.
