24 My Advocate

    My Advocate
#24 in the Series:  My Daddy Is…

Have you ever had someone in your life, who stood up for you and supported you publicly, especially when you were going through a difficult time.  The dictionary says an advocate is “a person who publicly supports or recommends a particular (person) cause or policy.  Synonyms include, among others:  backer, campaigner, defender, promoter, supporter, spokesperson and champion.  I really like that last one!

Did you know that God is your champion, supporter and helper through the person of the Holy Spirit!  When you need help or support in anyway, he is there…within you, to provide everything you need to live a godly life.

That does not mean you will not go through difficult times.  It does mean that you will have all you need to endure…And endurance will perfect you, making you complete and mature, lacking nothing!  (James 1:2-4)

Be encouraged today.  Pray that the eyes of your understanding will be opened as you read and meditate on the fact that God is for you…publicly!

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:31‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.”
    ‭‭1 John‬ ‭2:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Even now my witness is in heaven; my advocate is on high.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭16:19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭14:16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭14:26‬ ‭NIV‬‬

    1. Now…pray and ask Holy Spirit to highlight something from this post and to teach you. (Perhaps he already highlighted something as you were reading!). Close your eyes and be silent before him for a minute or two...or more.  Breathe in Holy Spirit.  (Yes, actually inhale.)  Listen.  Open your eyes and peruse the post.  What does your eye see or your ear hear?  Write it in your journal.

    1. Why does it seem important?  You could even ask:  Father/Jesus/Holy Spirit, why have you brought this to my attention?  Write the answer in your journal.  (The answer may be a question…an I wonder.  Allow Holy Spirit to direct your thoughts.)

    1. Make it a prayer.  Pray the scripture (and it’s insights, questions, or comments) back to the Father.  Write this in your journal.

    1. How are you going to be different after this experience with God?  What does he want you to be or do as a result?  If you are not sure, ask him.  Write this in your journal.

I look forward to this journey with you!  Onward to freedom for your mustang heart!
